Overview
Two-Factor Authentication is an extra layer of authentication that requires the user to prove they are who they claim to be. 2FA requires not only a username and password but also a short-lived access code generated by something that the legitimate user, and only the legitimate user, has some degree of physical access to, like a smartphone.
Common Use Cases
We use passwords to access all kinds of personal and sensitive data, but passwords are increasingly difficult to protect on their own. The second method of identity verification is required, and that's where 2FA comes in to play. By combining the thing that you know, your password, with something unique that you have, like a smartphone, your account cannot be breached even if your password is known to someone else.
You need the Google Authenticator app to enable Two-Factor Authentication. Get it on Google Play or the App Store.
